From any photo to a passport photo in 2 steps

  1. Make the background white. Add your photo above and download it.
  2. Crop to size. Open the passport photo maker (35 × 45 mm, 2 × 2 inch and more) or your country's visa page.
  3. Print or upload. Download a single photo or a 4 × 6 sheet for printing.

Is an edited background accepted?

Many visa portals and photo shops accept a clean white background. However, some authorities, including the US State Department for passports and visas, ask for unedited photos. For those, take the photo against a real white wall. Always check the rules of the office you're applying to. Our country pages say when edits aren't allowed.

Before you change the background

The result depends on the original photo. Stand in front of a plain, light wall in even daylight, keep your head and shoulders in frame, and use a sharp, high-resolution photo. A dark or patterned background, strong shadows or hair against a busy backdrop make the edges look rough after the change.

Common problems and fixes

Light halo around the hair: retake the photo further from the wall so there is less light spill. Grey shadow on one side: face a window and turn off lamps that light you from one side. Glasses glare: tilt your head slightly down or take the glasses off if the rules allow it. Blurry edges: use a larger original, because a small photo gives the tool fewer details to work with.

Applying in the Gulf?

Several Gulf authorities say edited photos are not accepted. For example, the UAE ICP says it does not accept photos changed with filters or software. Retake the photo against a real white wall for those, and use the tool only to crop and resize. See the Gulf photo size guide, the Emirates ID photo maker and the Absher resident photo maker.
