Tips for a photo that gets accepted

Gulf visa portals check photos automatically, and most rejections come from the background or lighting. Stand about one metre in front of a plain white wall, face a window for even daylight, keep a neutral expression with eyes open, and make sure there are no shadows behind your head. Remove glasses if they reflect light. Do not use filters or editing apps, because several authorities reject altered photos.

Need the documents too?

Visa and residency applications often ask for a passport scan or other documents as a PDF under a size limit. You can turn photos into a PDF, edit, merge or read scanned PDFs with OCR, or compress a JPEG to 100 KB, all free in your browser.

Questions

What is the visa photo size for the Gulf countries?

It depends on the country and the portal. The UAE Dubai GDRFA portal uses 300 × 369 px, the Emirates ID uses 35 × 40 mm, Saudi Arabia 200 × 200 px, Qatar 35 × 45 mm, Kuwait 40 × 50 mm for the passport and Civil ID (35 × 45 mm for visas), and Oman 40 × 60 mm. Always check the portal you are applying on, because rules can change.

Why do Gulf visa portals reject photos?

Most rejections come from a background that is not plain white, shadows, a tilted head, glare on glasses, or an old or edited photo.

Which background colour should I use?

White for almost every Gulf visa and ID portal. Kuwait passport and Civil ID photos use a blue background, and some visa applications ask for white, so read the instructions on your application.

Is my photo uploaded when I use these tools?

No. The tools run in your browser and your files never leave your device.

Which Indian passport photo size do I need in the Gulf?

Indian passport applications use an ICAO-compliant colour photo of 630 × 810 px on a white background. See the Indian passport page for details.
